Let’s Celebrate Dads, Today!!
Join us this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Bring your dad, bring a friend’s Dad. And Dads, bring the kids. The weather report does not look great. So, call the Shop (901-726-6409) or follow the link, for weather updates.
We’re riding to Memphis Made. Since it’s so close, we’ll take the long way there (you know, like Dad and his short cuts?!).
Bike Camp: Week 2
This week, we had 10 8th thru 10th graders. We continued our work to approach riding like Driver’s Ed for Bicycles. And we road all over town. On Wednesday, we made it to the Shelby Farms Greenline. We talked about the planned Shelby Farms Greenline Bridge that would take the Greenline West from Tillman to Tobey Park. Not only will this be great for bicyclists, it will help the residents of Binghampton get around. Many don’t have cars and many have physical mobility issues.
On Thursday, we rode in the rain. This was not on purpose. But as they say in the Netherlands, “We’re not made of sugar!” Nobody melted, and we only continued riding because it was just rain, not thunder and lightening. But it was a lot of rain! We were really pleased to for all of us to get a chance to explore the new Crosstown Concourse. We found the bike parking (both inside and out of the parking garage). It’s a pretty amazing place and we encouraged the Campers to ride there and take advantage of all the shops and organizations!
In an effort to encourage the Campers to advocate for better bicycling facilities, we worked hard to point out existing bike racks and talk about places that need them. We also encouraged them to use the Memphis 311 App to report problems in the bike lanes.
A BIG, BIG thanks goes out to all of our Camp Counselors and adult helpers. You all were awesome!!!
And thanks to all of our Campers and parents! We enjoyed wrenching and riding with your kids. And, we hope we’ll see your kids and you doing more bicycles with us, again, soon!
What’s that Squeak?
Tomorrow is our Basic Bike Assessment class. This is a great one if you are new to the workshop. You will learn the parts of your bicycle, and talk about what parts should (or shouldn’t!) be moving. Read more and sign up, here.
Bike to Dinner
This week, we’re headed to High Point Pizza. Meet us, at Revolutions at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 21. If you need to rent a bike, please come at 6:15. More details and weather updates, here.
Great Streets Pilot Project
Are you following along on this project? It’s, well, pretty great! You can read updates on the Bike/Ped Memphis Facebook page and blog. And there’s a Volunteer Build Day on Saturday, June 24 from 8:00 – 1:30.
Move By Bike: In 2 Weeks!
It’s almost here. Revolutions’ first ever Move by Bike! What is it, you say? Well, we have a Revolutions member who is moving two blocks down. And she jokingly mentioned to me, Sylvia, that it would be fun to move by bike. Little did she know this has been a dream of mine for several years! So, here’s our big chance!
We’re looking for folks with bicycles that can carry stuff: cargo bikes, bicycle baskets, bike trailers, whatever.
On July 1st, we’ll meet at 8:45 a.m., for coffee, donuts and a funky-fresh soundtrack for all the brave bicyclists who would like to join in the movement. Everything will be systematically packed and ready to roll when everyone arrives. After we get things transported to her new dwelling, pizza and beer will be provided to reimburse you all for your sweat, time and pedaling power.
Check out the Facebook event for address and more details.
Don’t have a bike set up to haul stuff? Revolutions can help! We would LOVE for folks to ride our cargo bikes for this move. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve one for you! We’ll meet at the Shop, on July 1st at 8:00 a.m. to get cargo bikes out. Then we can ride over together.
We require helmets on all Revolutions sponsored rides. Bring your bike in to Revolutions ahead of time for a tune-up, to make sure it’s ready to ride! Please remember that you ride at your own risk.
