Jazz and Bikes: Friday Night

Have you heard about 5 Fridays of Jazz at Benjamin Hooks? 2017 is the encore season of this free concert series starting March 3 – April 28, 2017 featuring some of the region’s great jazz entertainers. On Friday, April 23, we’re meeting early, at 5:30, because doors open at 6 p.m. and seats go fast. (A cash bar and food will be available each night also.)

The Library is less than 3 miles from Revolutions, so you should be about to ride for about 35 minutes, each way. Rides meet at Revolutions, on the Cooper-side of First Congo, in front of our gate with bike art above it. We’ll meet at 5:30 and roll out by 5:45, at the latest.

Please NOTE: We are not renting bikes for this ride. All rides are weather dependent (we will cancel, if it looks like rain). And we require helmets on all Revolutions sponsored rides. Bring your bike in to Revolutions ahead of time for a tune-up, to make sure it’s ready to ride! We take a pretty easy pace. Please remember that you ride at your own risk.

You can read more about Friday’s musicians, here.

Bike to Dinner: Alex’s Tavern

Revolutions member, Rica Davis, summed up this ride best:

Don’t let the location, the cigarette smoke, the darkness of the place, the jukebox, the cigarette vending machine, the office and the kitchen one step away from each other, the one bar tender/waitress fool ya Alex’s Tavern has the best ribs, seasoned chicken wings, and chicken tenders hands down. Yes, I ate all of that. I created my own sampler plate with the help of my friends. Thanks Revolutions for the fearless Friday night bike ride.

We called it a Fearless Friday ride because it was raining a mere 10 minutes before we gathered. But 20 people put on their raincoats and the rain went away. You just never know, in Spring. But this ride was a good one!

Ride: We will also spend part of the morning riding in the neighborhood. Later in the week, we will venture farther afield. We will work on how to plan a good riding route and the basics of road riding rules and skills.
