Camps and Classes!bike-camp-2017

Wrench & Ride Bicycle Summer Camp

is back for a second year. And this time, we have a full-day option. Thanks to the Snowden School Art teachers, campers can wrench and ride bicycles in the morning and do great art, in the afternoon. Read more and sign up, here.

How to Ride in the Street class

1. Do you know how to ride a bicycle?

2. Are you nervous about riding in the street, alone?

If you answered yes to these two questions, then join us this Spring for our How to Ride in the Street class!

We know that lots of Memphians would like to ride their bicycles more often. It’s a great way to go the farmers’ market, park or grocery store. But it can be really intimidating to get on the street with all the cars. What should you do if the bike lane disappears? Where should you ride if there isn’t any bike lane? What’s the best way to turn left? Is it safer to just ride on the sidewalk?

This class meets for 4 Sundays: March 26, April 2, 9 and 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Read more and sign up, here.

2 Rides this Week!

#1: Spring Break Ride: Teacher-Style

Several Revolutions members work for Shelby County Schools, as their day job. Join us, Friday, March 10 at 6:00, to thank these hardworking souls, as we celebrate the start of Spring Break with a local beer run. We’ll gather in front of Revolutions and then ride to the Overton Park Golf Clubhouse for a beer on the patio. As the sun goes down, we’ll continue on to Wiseacre for another. And then work our way back to Memphis Made. Are you a teacher, or have you ever been taught by one? Join us for this Spring Break pub crawl. Read more here.

#2: Bike to Lunch: Pancho’s

For March, Bike to Lunch is headed to Pancho’s, in West Memphis. We are meeting at Martyr’s Park, at 10:30 on Saturday, March 11, to keep this ride a managable length!

From Martyr’s Park, this ride is about a 5 miles each way. You should be about to ride for about 55 minutes, without a break. Weather updates and more info, here.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. We are NOT meeting at Revolutions. We’re meeting at Martyr’s Park, just beside the start to the Harahan Bridge

2. We are NOT renting bicycles for this ride.

All rides are weather dependent (we will cancel, if it looks like rain). And we require helmets on all Revolutions sponsored rides. Bring your bike in to Revolutions ahead of time for a tune-up, to make sure it’s ready to ride! We take a pretty easy pace. Please remember that you ride at your own risk.

Don’t let not having a bike keep you from riding with us. We have bikes for sale, in our Shop.

No Bike Rentals, for this week’s rides:

Please NOTE: We are not renting bikes for either of these rides.

Don’t Forget Open Shop

IMG_6875.JPG

Members’ Open Shop is a time for Revolutions members to work on their bicycle projects. We have volunteers available to help with questions. And we have tools, galore. Join us Sundays from 2-6, and Mondays/Thursdays 6:30 – 9:00. Not a member of Revolutions? You can join when you arrive, or use the Shop just for the day for $10.

Cooper-Young St. Paddy’s Day Parade: With Bikes!

StPatricks2017Parade.jpgRevolutions was invited to lead a group of children on bicycles, in the 2nd Annual St. Paddy’s Day parade, in Cooper-Young. So, if you’re looking for some fun on Friday morning, come out to the parade. Don’t forget to wear green!

Winter Overhaul Class

Check out the great work accomplished in our Winter Overhaul class. A few folks have some more work to do. But everyone came away feeling much more comfortable wrenching on bicycles!
