Jan.22: Bike to Businesses!

Where to Ride, Where to Park?!

Have you biked the Cleveland Ave bike lane? I love it with it’s green paint at intersections and it’s safe and easy travel along Cleveland. And now, it is even separated in some places. Unfortunately, the signs haven’t been posted, yet, but the City is working on it. It is confusing to figure out where to park, and folks are having trouble. This is causing some negative feelings at at least one business, and we’ve been asked to help. I think we can help with some education and encouragement.

If you are looking for a good place to eat, why not try one of the delicious stops along Cleveland? Peggy’s Famous Healthy Home Cooking is in a particularly confusing spot, along the bike lane because cars on the west side of the street (beside Central High School’s stadium) are actually supposed to park to the left of the bike lane. Just a couple of weeks ago, the city installed delineator posts, but car drivers are still confused. So we’re suggesting that you ride your bicycle to Peggy’s. While your there enjoying their food, you could mention how great it is that they are located on this great new bike lane. You know, just share a little about why you love businesses that are easy to get to by bike!

Another favorite restaurant of mine is Phoung Long, located very near the Crosstown Building. They are very friendly towards bicycles, but they don’t have a bike rack. Won’t you help encourage them, too?!

And of course, if you need any air in your tires, or to make a quick fix on your bike, you can stop at the Outdoor Repair Station located at the NE corner of Poplar and Cleveland, beside the bus stop. Revolutions helped the Church Health Center install that station almost 2 years ago!

Fix a Flat Class: Monday

Have you been wanting to learn to fix a flat tire? Your next chance is here, tomorrow night! Plan to join us on Monday, January 23. Read more and sign up, here.

Some Rides Get Cancelled

Our Beers and Gears ride, scheduled for last Thursday night, was cancelled due to rain. We scheduled a bunch of rides, this winter, just in case the weather is decent. But please remember to check out our Facebook event page for weather updates. Or, just call the Shop, at (901)726-6409! We know we’re not made of sugar, but we still don’t like to host group rides in the rain!

Bike to Dinner: Bahn Thai

We’ll try, again, this Thursday for a group ride. We’re riding to Bahn Thai. Meet at Revolutions at 6:30 p.m. You should be about to ride for about 35 minutes, each way. On the way, we’re going to roll by the Brooks Museum exhibit “Intrude.” We won’t plan to stop but the bunnies are supposed to look great at night. So, we’ll plan to ride through the park, on the way to dinner.

We have bikes to rent, if you need one: City Bikes, Family Cargo Bikes and trail-a-bikes that we can help you attach to your bicycle, so a kid can help you pedal.

Rides meet at Revolutions, on the Cooper-side of First Congo, in front of our gate with bike art above it. We’ll meet at 6:30 and roll out by 6:45, at the latest. If you are renting bicycles, please come at 6:15.

All rides are weather dependent (we will postpone, if it looks like rain). And we require helmets on all Revolutions sponsored rides. Bring your bike in to Revolutions ahead of time for a tune-up, to make sure it’s ready to ride! Please bring a locks, if you can. We take a pretty easy pace. Please remember that you ride at your own risk.

Don’t let not having a bike keep you from riding with us. We have bikes for sale, in our Shop. And we also rent adult bikes, kid’s trail-a-bikes for and family cargo bikes for $5-10 plus tax, on the day of a group ride.
