Connecting Neighbors

This Spring, Revolutions embarks on a process of Strategic Planning. Do we have a focused mission? Do our members know what it is? We aim to dream, refine and define our mission, over the next several months.

As a part of this process, we’ve been talking about Revolutions’ interest in connecting neighbors. And that work was very evident, at this week’s Bicycle Ambassadors. Of the 13 Ambassadors, we only have one child who lives out of Peabody Elementary’s boundary line. That means that all of these children, save one, are very close neighbors, whether they know it, or not. For Thursday’s ride, we rode a route that would take us near ten of the Ambassadors’ homes. All of these children go to school together. And all of them live within six blocks of the school. Yet all of them experienced streets they had never been to, before. I hope we knitted their neighborhood a little tighter, this week.

How to Ride in the Street Class

IMG_2843Did you know that 60% of Memphians would like to ride their bicycles more. And, with the numbers of accidents down and ridership up, it is only getting safer to ride, in Memphis? At Revolutions, we find that a lot of folks are still wary of street riding. So, we have a new class to help! Please, spread the word! And sign up here!!

May is Bike Month

On Monday, May 9, Revolutions is headed to Pizza with Planners: Bike Month Edition

  • Join Livable Memphis, along with Revolutions Bicycle Cooperative, for a bicycle ride celebrating the Hampline! We will meet at Revolutions at 6:00 p.m., ride to and along the Hampline in Binghampton, and end at the East Parkway Pavilion in Overton Park for pizza on us and an opportunity to listen in on a panel discussion on current transportation trends and developments. Don’t have a bicycle? No worries! Bicycles are available for rent at Revolutions, for $5 plus tax. Click here to register!

Do you ride to the Levitt Shell?

LevittRevolutions68

This summer, the Levitt Shell will be encouraging you to! Last Tuesday, Revolutions hosted the Levitt Shell staff, in our Shop. We talked about the barriers to riding to the Shell, one of the biggest being that folks want to bring a picnic. But how can you do that if you’re on a bike? In an effort to show how easy it is, Revolutions loaded up our bikes with picnic things, including beer (thanks Memphis Made!), carried in a handy bike carrier (thanks Memphis Growler Caddy!), and we took the Levitt Shell staff on a ride to the park! Our good friend Brandon Dill took photos, and these will be shared this summer, to encourage others to ride.

So, do you ride to the Shell? We can help you outfit your bicycle, if you want to try!
