Bicycle Ambassadors Volunteer Orientation — Tomorrow! Bike Rodeo Helpers

Still not sure exactly what we’re doing with the Revolutions Bicycle Ambassadors? We were featured, this week, on Make Memphis! Read more about our program, here!

In order to work with the children, volunteers MUST be approved by Shelby County Schools (SCS). This involves:

  1. An SCS Volunteer Orientation
  2. An SCS Application form, filled out by the volunteer and signed by Peabody’s principal
  3. Fingerprinting and background check, done at the School Board office

In order to make this as easy as possible, we scheduled the SCS Volunteer Orientation, to be held at Revolutions, on Monday, February 8 at 6:45 p.m. This should last no more than one hour.

During the Orientation, you will have the chance to fill out the SCS application form and sign up for an appointment to get fingerprinted.

If you are even thinking about helping with this program, it would be great for you to attend this orientation on February 8! Please email Sylvia at info@revolutionsmemphis.com, if you are able to join us!!

Basic Bike Assessment Class — Next Week!

On Monday, February 15 at 6:30, we will host our Basic Bike Assessment class. If you are new to Revolutions, this class is a great introduction to the Shop. And, if you bring your own bike, you will have a chance to make a list of all the work you could do on it during our Open Shop hours. This class is included free, with Revolutions Membership. If you’re not a member, yet, you can join when you sign up.

Flat Fix Class

IMG_0974

Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 brings the return of our Flat Fix Class. This month, we have a special guest teacher! Robert Taylor is the former owner and founder of Victory Bicycle Studio, with over 30-years experience in the bike industry.  Robert served on Trek’s advisory board, is a certified USCF race mechanic, a  Fit Kit and Michael Sylvester certified fit specialist, and generally a pretty nice guy.  He has spent over half his life working on bikes:  from a shop rat, to the manager and buyer for a multiple store chain. If flat tires keep you from riding, join us for this great class! This class is also for members, only. But you can join when you sign up!

ZipCars are Coming to First Congo!

Launch Date is Saturday, February 27th, at the Farmers Market.

Zip car is a great resource for bicyclists! We have learned that every time a zipcar goes ON the road, 10 to 15 cars go OFF the road because people use them for their occasional needs (doctor appointments, grocery shopping, airport runs) and otherwise they either walk, ride a bike, or own one family car rather than two. We will have two cars located on our south parking lot – easily visible on Cooper Street, right next to First Congo’s bike corral. One will be a compact car and one will be a larger SUV. If you’re interested in learning more about using zipcars here in Memphis, come to the Cooper Young Community Farmers Market on Feb 27th to ask questions, or go to http://www.zipcar.com/memphis
