Ways to Get Involved!!

A New Way to Volunteer!

Bicycle Ambassadors Volunteer Orientation

We are almost ready to start the Revolutions Bicycle Ambassadors program with Peabody Elementary! Helping will involve things like wrangling children, standing at a Bicycle Rodeo station and calling out instructions like: “Signal left!”, and riding with Sylvia and the children as we learn to navigate the neighborhood.

In order to work with the children, volunteers MUST be approved by Shelby County Schools (SCS). This involves:

  1. An SCS Volunteer Orientation
  2. An SCS Application form, filled out by the volunteer and signed by Peabody’s principal
  3. Fingerprinting and background check, done at the School Board office

In order to make this as easy as possible, we scheduled the SCS Volunteer Orientation, to be held at Revolutions, on Monday, February 8 at 6:45 p.m. This should last no more than one hour.

During the Orientation, you will have the chance to fill out the SCS application form and sign up for an appointment to get fingerprinted.

If you are even thinking about helping with this program, it would be great for you to attend this orientation on February 8! Please email Sylvia at, if you are able to join us!!

We have bikes for sale!

Call to Action

overton-map-for-web-1024x777On Tuesday, the Brooks Museum at Overton Park will host the first public meeting about Overton Park’s parking issue. You can make your voice heard now, by participating in an online survey. And you can attend the meeting, too. February 2nd, 6:00 p.m. at the Brooks Museum. Why not bike there?! They have lots of bike parking in front of the museum and in front of the Levitt Shell. Can we fill all the spaces?!

Help with your Taxes?

First Congo is offering free tax preparation help, on Tuesdays. Though taxes are not just paid by people who like bicycles, I wanted to pass this helpful information along to you, Dear Readers. Sterling Owen will provide free tax filing services through the Volunteer Income Tax Association and the United Way. You will find her in Cafe Congo (upstairs, then down the hall from Revolutions) on Tuesdays between 4:00 – 8:00 pm, to receive this assistance!  If you have a question or would like to let Sterling know that you’re planning to come, contact her at or call her office number 272-0012.
