We’ve Done It!!!
28 kids with 28 bikes — Trained in Road Safety and Bikes Taken Home!!!
The Christmas Kids Bike project was a big one. But we did it, with only two (or maybe three) extra work sessions. At our second Bike Rodeo, we had two children who were very uncomfortable on their bikes, at the beginning of the session. One said she had not ever ridden without training wheels. But by the end of the afternoon, they both were rolling along like pros.
Saturday’s Neighborhood Group Ride turned out to be a huge success. I asked for 28 adult volunteers to ride as buddies and I think I might have had 30!! Every child had a buddy and we rode in groups of ten, or so. A huge thanks to our new friends at the Liberty Bowl. Art Davis and his crew agreed to open up the part of Young Ave that goes their property, so we could just cross over East Parkway, instead of ride along it. We then continued around the Liberty Bowl to Hollywood, where I’m pleased to report that NO ONE feel on the train tracks and on in to the Belt Line neighborhood where residents smiled and waved as we rolled along. The kids got a real taste of riding on the streets as we continued on the bike lane on Southern and then back to Cooper Street and into First Congo.
Thanks to our friends in the YMCA Y-CAP and Multicultural Achievers programs, Shelby Farms, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Peddler Bike Shop for making this a super event. We have pictures, taken by an actual photographer! But those are coming soon, as he had so many, he has to cull them!
Don’t Forget: Women’s Bike Chat, TODAY!
No sitting to chat this month, just chatting while riding! Join us, at 2:00, all bundled up, to ride to for some hot chocolate. We have two route possibilities and we’ll decide when we gather. Ladies, feel free to bring along your husbands, partners, etc. Hot chocolate is good for everyone. And maybe we’ll see some Christmas lights along the way.
And please wear a helmet. Revolutions sponsored rides require helmets. You can borrow one, if you need to!
And in Other Big News…
We received word, this week, that we have found enough matching grant monies to match our generous grant from the Hyde Family Foundations. So, we have completed our match and step into 2015 with funding in hand to begin some big changes around our space (heating and air is coming!!!) and grow programs that we’ve been dreaming about!
Look out 2015. We have big plans!!
Revolutions will be CLOSED for the Holidays from Dec 22 through Jan 4.
We look forward to seeing you in 2015!!!
