2 Rides, 2 Rodeos, Endless Joy!!!

Last week, did you read all of the upcoming happenings at Revolutions? In case you didn’t, I’m giving them to you, again. I DO NOT want you to miss out on all the fun we’re having.

  • December Dates of Note:
    •  13, Saturday: Kidical Mass ride at Overton Park, 10:30 a.m. We are hosting this ride with Snowden School, but everyone is invited! Bring your kids, on their bikes, bring yourself, on yours. And bundle up! We’ll have something warm to drink, at the end. If you can’t read the image, below, click here for more information.

  • 18: Revolutions Christmas Party, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
    • Come celebrate all the great work we’ve done, this year!
  • 21: Women’s Bike Chat Hot Chocolate Ride, 2:00 p.m.

There are still lots of ways to help with our Christmas Kids Bikes project. We have two more work sessions (This Afternoon!, and Monday Dec. 8). And there are also two Bike Rodeos and a Group ride, and we NEED volunteers!!!

  • Christmas Bikes (sign-up here, to help)
    • Dec. 7 (TODAY, 2 -6) and Dec. 8 (6:30 – 9:00 p.m.) — Final days for Christmas Bike Builds
      • If you like wrenching on bikes, please join us to finish up the kids bikes so they will be ready for the Bike Rodeos on Dec 11 and 15! No need to sign up, for these dates. Just show up and join us! (You must be a member, but you can join when you arrive!)
    • Dec. 7 (ALSO TODAY, 2-6 p.m.)
      • We need some kids to test-ride these bikes, in order for us to check them for safety (some of them are just too short to be ridden by an adult!). We have bikes for kids from ages 7 to 16. We’ll need a few kids who can use gears, b/c some of the bikes have gears to be checked out. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult!!! Adults who attend on Dec. 7 will help us get the bikes outside, fit them to our test riders and then make adjustments, as needed.
    • Dec 11 (Thur), Dec 15 (Mon.): Bike Rodeos (3 to 6 p.m.)
      • These are at Revolutions from 4 to 5:30. Volunteers should plan to arrive at 3:00 and stay until 6:00. The work will involve moving bikes, changing fit of handlebars/seats, staffing bike rodeo and clean-up, distributing helmets. Sign up for this, here.
    • Bike Donation Day and GROUP RIDE Dec 20 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
      • This day will involve moving bikes, distributing bikes and helmets, assisting in a group ride and celebrating the children!
        • I am especially looking for folks to help with the Group Ride. In the past, kids in this program rode down the Greenline, so they were relatively contained by that path. This year we’re doing a neighborhood ride, that will involve crossing East Parkway and cycling a short ways into Beltline, before heading South to the bike lane on Southern and returning to 1st Congo. In order to keep the kids contained and safe, I would like to have a Ride Buddy for every child! This may be ambitious, but I think we can do it and I think this ride will be really, really fun. I would especially like to have some Spanish speakers because, though the kids all speak English, some of the parents may not. And I would love for them to be able to chat with you about the ride, afterwards.
And please note that unfortunately, this Group Ride is not a time to bring your own children, unless they are attached to your own bike. But if they’re attached, and you feel like you can ride and talk to a Christmas Bike child at the same time, then bring them along!
So, please let me know if you are interested in helping. It would be very helpful for my count if you would sign up on the sign up sheet found here. But if that’s too complicated, you can also email me! And if you have friends who are interested, please share this email and link with them. You do not have to be a Revolutions member to help out with these Bike Rodeo and Group Ride activities!!
  • Dec. 22 through Jan. 4: Revolutions Closed for Christmas/New Year’s
